It’s here! Clean Pizza!
Pizza is a big favorite for my family (including myself), and a staple for family movie night. I’ve tried cauliflower crusts as a way of going “clean”, but my kids are not fans; and while my husband and I like it, it doesn’t quite fill the craving for a soft yet crunchy crust.
Previously, I’ve used Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza Crust mix, and we all love it. BUT, the mix has cane sugar.
This week, I decided to pick up a bag of Bob’s Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour. I like the ingredients list as compared to the pizza mix (garbanzo bean flour, potato starch, tapioca flour, white sorghum flour, fava bean flour), and figured I could play around with it a bit.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this actually was, and alas, I present: Clean Pizza Crust!
1 bag Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All-Purpose Baking Flour
1 tbs baking powder (omit if you prefer a thin crunchy crust)
1/4c olive oil
1 to 1 1/2 cups water (Start with 1cup, and add if needed, until dough is thick but slightly sticky)
Garlic, Salt, and Italian Seasonings to your taste
Preheat oven to 425.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well (use hands to kneed if necessary).
Grease a pizza sheet liberally, and spread dough to edges. (Wetting your fingers with a little water will help keep the dough from sticking.)
Add additional garlic, salt and Italian seasonings to top of crust if desired. (I love all the flavor I can get!)
Bake the crust on it’s own for 8-10 minutes, until slightly firm.
Remove from the oven, and add all your favorite toppings!
(My top secret favorite sauce… homemade pizza sauce with 1 can crushed tomatoes, 3-4 tbs olive oil, salt, garlic and Italian seasoning… then I add a few tablespoons of hummus! It’s strange, but SO good, I promise!)
Bake pizza with your toppings for 15-20 minutes more, until crust is crispy. (We usually do plain cheese for the kids, and no-cheese-lots-of-veggies for my husband and I.)
Because we go cheese free, I like to add fat in the form of avocado to my slices. And I did have multiple slices.
This recipe is a keeper! It was delicious and kid-approved! Firm and crunchy enough to pick up and eat (no fork required), and healthy with high fiber and protein in the crust!
